Garage Door Opener:
• REVERSAL TEST
Make sure your door has a reversal option. Your door should be able to stop at any point in the close/open process and go the opposite way.
• FORCE SETTING TEST
Test the door by holding the bottom of the door as it closes. It should reverse instantly. Also test with a piece of wood under the door as it closes. It should stop and reverse immediately when it comes in contact with the wood. If it doesn't, this is a major safety hazard and should be repaired.
• VISUAL INSPECTION
Look over springs, pulleys, tracks, cables and rollers. Make sure all are in working order and no items are in the way.
Properly lubricate the working elements of the door such as hinges and springs.
• DOOR BALANCE
Close the door and use the release mechanism. You should be able to operate the automatic door manually if working properly. It should open and close easily and be able to maintain an open position without assistance.
